For my main computing, I use a Mac Mini with a Logitech K400 keyboard (Integrated trackpad). For gaming and other measures, I use a Logitech K760 solar rechargeable keyboard with a Logitech wireless trackball. I don't use a KVM switch, as my display is a TV with multiple HDMI ports. As Steve Jobs is fond of saying, the Mac mini is a BYOKDM computer. And, assuming you've got a KDM (or KVM, as these peripherals are known outside of Jobs-land), chances are they're already hooked.
A recent question and answer has much value for a current Windows-only user looking to add Apple’s new Mac mini to their computing arsenal. It’s called a KVM (Keyboard, Video. Has vetted its MiniView Micro USB Plus KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) Switch for use with Apple's new Mac mini. The self-powered switch enables two computers to share a single keyboard. GREAT PRODUCT - I was very pleased to find this KVM with Mini DisplayPort and USB for my two Macs. It works smoothly and transparently with a Mac Mini and MacBook Pro (2014) and Apple aluminum keyboard. Good value for around $100 street price. The KVM is solidly built with a metal case. Three USB device ports It does need to be reset every few.
Two things that I had to do to solve my problems.
1. Disconnect everything from the Mini and hold in on the power button for fifteen seconds. Reconnect all cables.
2. Have the kvm switched to the Mini before booting, For some reason the Mini needs to see a monitor connected or else it never sends a signal.

I have had no problems since figuring this out and I have let the Mini sleep all day and it never fails to awaken. My G5 on the other hand doesn't care if the monitor is seen or not, but let it sleep to long and getting it to awaken can be frustrating. Hop this helps.

I have an IOgear USB KVM connecting a USB keyboard and USB mouse to a Dell Laptop that has Ubuntu 14.04 on it and a Mac Mini (latest possible OS for that hardware), Mac is circa 2008. This KVM has one connector for Video, one USB connecter for both mouse and keyboard and one audio connector.
Kvm For Mac Mini Versions

Everything seems to work fine except for the odd occasion when I switch back to the Mac and I'm presented with the crash overlay telling me to hard reset the MAC.
This setup is somewhat new because my Windows 8 desktop system crashed, but when the windows machine was running with the Mac I was using a PS2 IOGear KVM and I never saw this Apple crash message. I did have the mouse and the keyboard into the Mac separately (from the KVM) through a USB extender/multiplier but it was not powered, and I did have to use a separate USB nouse for the PC because I could not get the USB mouse to connect to the Windows machine through the PS KVM, but I think this has nothing to do with my present problem.
Is there some strange Mac OS problem when switching USB mice and keyboards between computers using a USB KVM?
And...It doesn't happen everytime.

Thanks,
Warren
